Recommended Ballot Positions

A committee of the Travis County Democratic Party reviewed Nov. 2026 ballot propositions, arriving at the following recommendations:

SUPPORT City of Austin Proposition A — Parks, Pools, Trails, and Greenspaces Bond

  • The committee emphasized the need to maintain parks, pools, trails, and green spaces before deferred repairs become more costly, as well as the equity and connectivity benefits of the proposed investments. Members also considered affordability, existing unissued debt, operating costs, and delivery timing, and concluded that the time-limited bond authority should be supported.

SUPPORT City of Austin Proposition B — Public Libraries Bond

  • The committee focused on the demonstrated use of library facilities, the need for overdue capital investment, and the proposed $35 million program for library facilities. Members weighed those needs against affordability, outstanding City debt, and future operating costs, and voted separately to support Proposition B.

SUPPORT City of Austin Proposition C — Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission Charter Amendment

  • The committee viewed expanded student-member eligibility and administrative corrections as meaningful improvements to the commission process. Members also debated whether language permitting contact with City staff which could include city council aides would prevent the ICRC from being independent since that communication would occur outside of a public meeting; the majority concluded that the charter's and the measure's corrective benefits supported a favorable position.

OPPOSE City of Austin Proposition I — Independent Affordability and Efficiency Initiative Charter Amendment

  • The committee found that Austin already has internal and external audit mechanisms and had authorized recurring outside efficiency work. Members were concerned that a separate charter-mandated program could duplicate existing functions, create continuing contractual expenses without a fee cap, require the outside auditor be paid through cost savings measures, and unnecessarily constrain the timing of certain tax-rate elections.

SUPPORT Leander ISD Proposition A — Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE)

  • The committee considered the proposed three-cent maintenance-and-operations increase, the estimated annual household impact, and the district's identified needs in special education, safety, security, and staffing. Additional school-finance input supported the district's management record and the measure's role in maintaining services and preparing for future capital needs.

SUPPORT Pflugerville ISD / Austin Community College District Annexation Proposition — Annexation of Pflugerville ISD Territory into the ACC Taxing District

  • The committee weighed the permanent property-tax obligation against substantially lower in-district tuition, workforce-development benefits, expanded educational access, and representation in ACC governance. Members concluded that the long-term access and workforce benefits warranted support while emphasizing the need for clear public communication about who pays, who benefits, and the measure's continuing nature.
